You are Your Unique Selling Point

6 Easy steps to develop your own Personal Brand in no time and build your own business to success!

When the pandemic hit and we were confined at home for several months, I was then recovering from my ankle operation and had a lot of spare time to brood, to self-pity, to think and with all these bad thoughts and bad feelings, I told myself, “ this has got to stop”. So I got out of bed each and every day, started my exercise routine, my meditation and  I wrote down an action plan on what I really  wanted to do.

I scoured the internet about work from home jobs and finally found about personal branding. And I would like to share with you what I discovered so far about this topic.

What is a Personal Brand?

Your personal brand determines how you want to be perceived and remembered by others. It is a combination of your character, beliefs, hobbies or passions, likes and dislikes, skills or expertise, and past experiences. It conveys WHO YOU REALLY ARE AND THE VALUE that YOU BRING in order to attract your ideal client. It is what makes you unique and sets you apart from the rest within your niche. Your personal brand also develops and builds your know, like and trust factor and makes your audience aware of what you do.

6 Easy steps to create your Personal Brand

Your Personal Branding is a lifetime journey. There is no perfect personal brand.  It evolves with you, as you change and grow personally and as you grow your business or brand. Developing a solid foundation of your Personal Brand will help you achieve your goals and redirect you if you become distracted along the way.

Your Mood Board

I find this a very helpful tool to really think about the very foundation of your personal brand.  A mood board is a collection or a collage of photos or images, words, objects, ideas, concepts and designs or the solution you may have about a particular problem that you want  to incorporate in your brand.

Get my mood board template here...

Think about your values, choose your top 3 and make them your core values for your brand. This will help you lay your foundation, your why into creating this personal brand.

Then pick out photos or images of your travels, hobbies and advocacies. Don’t forget your skills and expertise and also your favorite colors.

Put your mood board at the center of your mind map. It can be physical ( like a white board, a paper or on your wall) or digital (your computer or tablet).

Now that you have everything in place, scrutinize each part, really study them and change anything that you think does not belong to the group.

And finally, Name your brand! Decide whether to adapt your own name or a brand name based on the product or services you want to sell. Check if the name you want is not yet taken if you are considering having a website. Also, you may want to check if it is available as social media handles. You want to have a uniform name handle across all the social media that you may want to choose, so your audience can easily find you.

How to stand out

Your Logo is what represents you out there. Based on your mood board, decide on your color palette, put in the name of your brand and decide whether to put just an image or pure text or a combination of both. Remember to incorporate your core values here, who you are and what you really want to convey to your audience. The images, colors and fonts you choose can do this for you. A combination of this can help you create the mood or tone that you want for your brand and will set you apart from your competitors in your chosen niche.  For example, if you want to project simplicity and happiness, choose bouncy yellow letters. You may want to engage a professional to do this for you or you can do it on your own. I recommend Canva.

Promote your brand

Now that you have your Logo, set up your website,  and your social media sites. Start growing your audience by inviting people who you think is one of your tribe. Craft your valuable contents and share them on your websites and social media. The contents you share will help you develop your know, like and trust factor and attract people who want to work with you. Join groups and be really helpful. Observe social media netiquettes.

You may also want to consider having an online resume or a sharable bio website, if you want to sell your professional services.

Your Pitch

Go back to your mood board and craft your pitch. This is your idea, a solution to the problems of your audience, this is the why of your brand. This is your Story.

Remember to show up for your audience across all your social media. Share your contents consistently to stay on top of the mind of your audience and maintain that connection!

You may also want to consider having a business card, physical or digital. So you can build your network online and offline.

Engage with your audience

Consistently sharing your valuable, helpful and educational contents on your website and social media will help you build your know, like and trust factor and attract the right audience. Keep them attracted to you by actively engaging with them and you will eventually grow your network.

You might want to consider having a Personal Media kit to have consistency in your brand.

Build relationships

Finally, Consistently engage with your audience. Answer their comments and inquiries. In this fast paced environment of busy people, having someone to comment or like or love your content is an accomplishment. So, don’t forget to thank them.

You may want to have a thank you card, get it here.
